About the blog author

I am a certified special education advocate and self taught visual artist.  I have an interest in activism for human rights and quality education for all children.  I'm a mom of two great kids through adoption.  In my artwork, I enjoy working with various mediums such as acrylics, oils, pens, pencils, digital graphic design, mixed media and experimenting with colors and textures. I find exploring various styles and subjects interesting and exciting. A selection of my artwork can be viewed at OffTheCuffArt.com   You can find artful, practical gifts from my original art at Zazzle.com/Sunfluer and Zazzle.com/Dogs4U.  In 2003, I launched a handcrafted designer jewelry website with a signature line of meaningful, adoption theme jewelry:  SunfluersJewelryDesigns.com.

I created this blog to discuss the trials and tribulations of advocating for a child on the Autism spectrum with specific educational needs in the public school system.  My first priority is to my child(ren) not defending what I consider to be a dysfunctional system that is severely broken.  The blog in not intended to be a rant.  It is a means to bring about awareness drawn from personal experiences and seeking positive advocacy for change at all levels in public school education.  I welcome insights and varying perspective and opinion from parents, educators and administrators.  My personal creed that I strive to live by:  "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."  I believe in a collaborative, mutually respectful working atmosphere  between parents and educators striving toward academic improvement and success for all students.

Originally from The Bronx, I'm a transplanted peace loving, new age thinker residing in the picturesque countryside in the mid-Hudson Valley with my husband, children, one yellow Lab, one German Shepherd and small flock of backyard chickens.
